Bass Tunes is a collection of 17 solos for young
double bassists with accompaniments for bass teachers or advanced
students. The Tunes can be also used for duets in performance.
Additionally, a booklet of optional piano accompaniments for seven of
the Tunes in included. Editor's note: "It was with pleasure that I
learned that Paul Ramsier, one of the most prolific composers of music
for the double bass, had turned his attention to that great desert tract
of bass repertoire: music for the young player. Since the conception of
each Tune was delimited by a specific fingering idea, I have indicated
fingerings to show the student where a piece is meant to
lie."
Four critically acclaimed works for double bass
are performed in the Sarasota Orchestra's Holley Hall by a virtuoso
bassist with the composer at the piano. These bass standards are
Three Lyric Pieces (in three movements);
Silent Movie (seven short movements);
The Low-Note Blues, and the major work
Divertimento Concertante on a Theme of
Couperin (seven movements). A musical postscript is added:
an optional way to perform Valse Cinematic from the
Divertimento. These compositions are played on orchestra-tuned
bass.
