Gale's Melodic Studies for Double Bass

Melodic Foundation Studies for the Double Bass
written and arranged by Thomas B. Gale.
This book is written with an emphasis on developing musicianship with technique being
only a means to a musical end.
Each study is organized around a scale group represented by a key signature. For each
scale, there are exercises for shifting, rhythm, scale extension, melody, and technique.
Then each scale group is followed by an etude used to review what has been practiced.
The scale groups studied in this way are:
C Major / A Minor / Review Etude 1
G Major / E Minor / Review Etude 2
F Major / D Minor / Review Etude 3
D Major / B Minor / Review Etude 4
Bb Major / G Minor / Review Etude 5
A Major / F# Minor / Review Etude 6
Eb Major / C Minor / Review Etude 7
E Major / C# Minor / Review Etude 8
Ab Major / F Minor / Review Etude 9
Db Major / Bb Minor / Review Etude 10
An excellent and desperately needed book filling much of the gap between the
intermediate player and the advanced intermediate play.

...a positive and challenging musical experience for students...

A cassette recording of the ten Review Etudes is available
as played by double bass soloist Mark Alison Morton.

Melodic Duets for Double Bass
arranged by Thomas B. Gale
Here is an excellent selection of 11 new and 3 previously published duets for
post-elementary to intermediate advanced level bassists.
The harmonies are carefully voiced, frequently with clever use of harmonics to
create open and beautiful sonorities.
