NBC channel 6 half-hour Jim Crooker's Christmas Show:
Could one man be the embodiment of the Christmas spirit to the extent that he sacrificed his own creature comfort to fulfill his self appointed mission? We think we have found such a person.
Maine Writers & Publishers Alliance (John Cole):
He is what he is; direct, extremely hardworking and most determined writer I know. Like his older brother, Donald was also a remarkable man. I'm not going to tell much more of his story, because it's told so wonderfully in Paul's book. But you should know that for Donald, being Santa Claus meant much more than wearing a costume and listening to children who waited in line to tell him what they wanted for Christmas. Donald took Santa seriously and spent his life giving ... but that's the story Paul has written.
Advertiser Democrat (Jill Casey Scott):
The book gracefully ties together correlations between St. Nicholas of the 4th century and Donald, in fact, the similarities are so real that many people who have read the book have written to Paul and told him that they believe that Donald truly was Santa Claus of the 20th Century. However, the book tells a story so bittersweet and sincere, not to mention truly fascinating that after one reads it, he or she will never forget it. As for how the plaster casts of Donald's feet solved the mystery for Paul you'll have to read the book. You'll be glad you did.
Enterprise (The Rev.Canon Charles M. Priebe Jr.)
Years ago my father finally admitted to me there is no real Santa Claus, but made it clear how much he enjoyed trying to be one. Decades later I'm convinced that Dad was wrong. I've just finished reading a book about the real Santa Claus. It may never become a classic, but its message will touch your heart and encourage you to "try a little harder" especially, if you seem to get no credit for what you have already done. The author, in his dedication of his book, wrote these helpful words: "It matters not whether we play a major or subordinate role, they are of equal value in the eyes of God! ... Your own mission in life may never receive the lime-light it deserves, but that doesn't change the value of it one bit. The value is in the deed, not in the recognition, so go forth and do your best."
The Coca Cola Company (Randall W. Donaldson ,Vise president of global communications):
Thanks you so much for sharing your book, "Santa Claus of the 20th century," and your brother's inspiring story with us. The fact that even Donald's own family did not know of his good deeds makes the story even more touching.
| And then it was on with the performance, I am sure the people around there had no idea how gifted he was as a Santa. I can just see the parents, doctors, and nurses in the hallway outside that child's room all gathered around the doorway, being very quiet so they could over hear every word the two were saying. And, oh Yes! there must have been a few, if not all, shaking their hand in each other's faces with their fingers crossed, just hoping maybe Donald could pull it off |
